Raspberries - Chlorosis
Symptoms
Interveinal chlorosis occurs on older leaves first, but proceeds to younger tissues with ongoing deficiency. Severely affected plants show marginal leaf scorch. Growth is moderately stunted.
Causes
Magnesium deficiency (right)
Normal leaf level is 0.3-0.9% Mg. Deficiencies occur in light, sandy soils with low pH or high K resp. Al content. Cold, wet, cloudy weather may contribute to Mg undersupply. Symptoms of virus yellowing or K deficiency look similar.

Raspberries - Necrosis
Symptoms
Interveinal chlorosis occurs on older leaves first, but proceeds to younger tissues with ongoing deficiency. Very severely affected plants finally become completely necrotic, brittle, and die off.
Causes
Magnesium deficiency
Normal leaf level is 0.3-0.9% Mg. Deficiencies occur in light, sandy soils with low pH or high K resp. Al content. Cold, wet, cloudy weather may contribute to Mg undersupply. Symptoms of virus yellowing or K deficiency look similar.
Magnesium deficiency made worse by
- Sandy soils
- Acidic soils
- Potassium rich soils
- Soils receiving high potash applications
- Cold wet periods
Magnesium is important for
- Improved photosynthesis
- Green healthy foliage
- Reduced yellowing on older leaves
Yara recommended fertilisers for Magnesium deficiency
