Oilseed Rape - Chlorosis
Symptoms
Symptoms of sulphur deficiency are visible on younger leaves first. They become light green or yellow, partly with violet or reddish colours at severe deficiency. In addition, the younger leaves remain small and narrow.
Causes
Sulphur deficiency
Similar symptoms on the leaves are visible for nitrogen deficiency, but they start on the older leaves.
Oilseed Rape - Deformation
Symptoms
Symptoms of sulphur deficiency are visible on younger leaves first. Starting from the leaf margin, they become light green or yellow, partly with violet or reddish discoloration at severe deficiency. In addition, the younger leaves remain small and narrow and their margins are bent upwards.
Causes
Sulphur deficiency
Similar symptoms on the leaves are visible for nitrogen deficiency, but they start on the older leaves.
Oilseed Rape - Deformation
Symptoms
Flowering of the rape plants is inhibited and the flowers are deformed. At severe deficiency, they have a white/yellow colour. As a consequence from poor flowering, the pod formation is also restricted, and if pods are formed, they are clearly smaller and do not contain many seeds so that the yield is severely restricted at sulphur deficiency.

Oilseed Rape - Deformation
Symptoms
Flowering of the S deficient rape plants is inhibited. The flowers are deformed and the complete inflorescence shows a pale yellow to white color.

Oilseed Rape - Deformation
Symptoms
Symptoms of sulphur deficiency are visible on younger leaves first. Starting from the leaf margin, their leaf blades turn light green or yellow, whereas the veins remain dark green. A reddish to bronze tint may occur additionally.
In addition, younger leaves remain small, narrow and they are vaulted cuplike.
Causes
Sulphur deficiency
Chlorosis with green veining can also be caused by Mg deficiency (on older leaves) or Fe or Mn deficiency (on younger leaves).

Sulphur deficiency made worse by
- Acidic soils
- Light, sandy soils (leaching)
- Low organic matter
- Poorly aerated soils (waterlogged soils
- ) Areas with low industrial emissions
Sulphur is important for
- Better crop establishment
- Reduced plant losses over winter
- Improved flowering
- More even maturity
- Improved grain yield and oil content of seed
Yara recommended fertilisers for Sulphur deficiency
YaraVita THIOTRAC 300
Oilseed Rape: 5-10 l/ha at the onset of stem extension. For moderate to severe deficiency, repeat applications at 10-14 day intervals. Do not apply during flowering. Water rate: 200 l/ha.
